You might have missed that you would have been required to pick up your tickets in France.
For the tickets that need to be collected at the station it is clearly stated on the website:
Ticket collection from stations and SNCF shops is only available in mainland France.

It is your responsibility as a traveller to ensure that you are in the possession of the correct tickets before travelling. As I assess the situation, SBB cannot be made liable for any troubles caused. The information given by the staff in Lausanne was correct.
