It all depends on the day trips you have got on your bucket list. If you stay at your hotels for the whole day, a travel pass is indeed not useful. If you plan to explore our country, a travel pass, or at least the Swiss Half Fare Card, does totally make sense and can indeed be a great money saver.
In my opinion, however, changing bases three times in 9 days is not wise, you will lose precious travel time. I personally would not stay in Zurich and directly proceed to Bern which is more Swiss and centrally located for either trips to Lucerne, Basel, Jura, or Bernese Oberland. You could take a stop at Zurich HB to explore the city for a few hours while you are actually heading to your base in Bern.
