First versus Seconf Class

We will be buying a 4 day flex pass. 3 of the days will be longer trips: Zurich to Wengen, Wengen to Luzern, Luzern to Basell. Would it be beter to purchase a second class pass and buy first class upgrades for the 3 longer trips?

However note that with Jungfrau Railways, the STP only grants 25% discount, not the usual 50% you get elsewhere.

Have you looked in to getting the Half Fare Card in stead, and buying supsersaver tickets for your long trips?
I assume that in Wengen you will be wanting to take trips on mountain railways and cable cars. The HFC gives you 50% off on those as well. The STP flex however does so only if you activate a day.

When you purchase the half fare card, does it automatically charge half price when purchasing tickets online through the SBB site?

In general if you log in on sbb.ch and you have a half-fare travelcard then yes. But sometimes the system does not recognize if the customer has a half-fare travelcard. In this case before clicking „purchase ticket for XX francs“ you have to add manually that you have a half-fare travelcard.

@Ein_Albaner refers to the resident’s Half Fare Card. The Swiss Half Fare Card is, however, not automatically taken into consideration as it is litterally a simple ticket.

To take advantage of the Swiss Half Fare Card,
you must make the appropriate settings for each passenger befoe the first purchase, only after it will be automatically recognised.

How to make the settings?
