Do I need a Swiss Pass to purchase a half fare travel card?

I live in the United States and plan on a vacation with my family in June. I wanted to buy half fare travel cards for my husband and myself and then get the free Swiss family pass for our 2 kids to travel with us. I want to use the half fare card to buy train tickets in advance for important connections of our trip and also for side trips once we arrive. I created a Swiss Pass account to get a customer number so that I could buy the half fare card on the SBB site. During the process I was asked to verify my identity with my passport and now that I am buying the half fare card the SBB site is asking me to upload a passport photo and says they will be sending a Swiss Pass card to my address in the United States. Am I doing this correctly? Another family going with us just logged on and bought the passes easily without the passport photo and ID process. My version of the website does not go through the same screens as theirs. Have I done it right or wrong? If wrong, how to correct the error?

No, you are barking up the wrong tree.

You haven chosen the Half Fare Card for Swiss residents at CHF 185.

The Swiss Half Fare Card for tourists at CHF 120 does neither require a SwissPass nor a customer number. You can find all information and get it from here:

While purchasing, do not forget to add your children, to receive the complimentory Swiss Family Card.

Keep the login you had created, you could use it to buy tickets on the SBB Mobile app. Also, if you are logged in while purchasing the Swiss Half Fare Card, the tickets will be later displayed in the SBB Mobile app, very handy.
