How do I add an SBB Gutschein to be used for payment in my SBB app?

I was told at the station that the voucher (gutschein) has a number on the back, and can be used in SBB app purchases just like a credit/debit card. I see the number, it looks like a credit card number, but when I try to enter it in the payment methods section of the SBB app, it just says “card number invalid”.

In the SBB App you can only redeem a “Coupon”, which is the newer digital incarnation of vouchers, see details explained here

The older traditional “Gutscheine” can only be redeemed at public transport point of sales, in the dining car, online on sbb.ch, but not (yet) in the app. See details explained here

On sbb.ch u got to use the Voucher in the Payment options, not the Coupon section.
