is IC574 and IC3 are same?

Hello,
In my ticket, it is written that ‘Only valid for: IC574’. But when I check the timetable today, the train is IC3 at the same time. the travel date and time is 16.10.2024 at 14:08. starting from Chur to Zurich. so can someone please help me if the both are same train or is IC574 cancelled?

Also, there was no option to reserve seat for IC574. But IC3 shows R

IC 3 is not the number of the train, but the number of the line: Intercity Chur - Zürich - Basel. You can compare this number with a line number of an underground or bus in a big city.

IC3 is the line number; all trains serving the same route are IC3 trains.

On the other hand, 574 is the train / course number, it is unique. In fact, the seat reservation would be for the train 574 that is part of the IC3 line.

I do not know what you did wrong; I am able to reserve seats, although there is no need to reserve seats for a Wednesday afternoon; no local would ever reserve a seat. Save that money and get you a coffee in the dining car instead.

I see room for improvement here. SBB could for example designate this train as IC3-574 for example. And while we are at it: Please show train numbers also on the departure boards. That SBB does not do this is very confusing for tourists who are used to look for those.

This improvement request has been made many times by different train staff, especially since the invention of Supersaver tickets; SBB, however, does not see the need for it.
