Route change due to construction

I received an email from SBB informing me that due to construction, the RJX between Salzburg and Zurich HB is out of service.
From Sargans, take the IC 3 (exit xx:27) to Zurich HB.

It’s only a 4-minute connection, If I can’t make it on time to board the IC 3 (exit xx:27), can I board the next one between Sargans and Zurich HB?

I’m having trouble to book a seat on the train between Sargans and Zurich. Can I do this directly at Salzburg station?

A 4-minutes connection is sufficient, provided the Austrian train is arriving on time.

In the event of train delay and followed by a misconnection, you can simply take the next possible connection.

You do not have to reserve seats for Swiss national trains, no local individual ever does that. Just get on board and take a free seat.
