Travel Card and Pass Suggestions with the Validity Question.

We are a family of four with two children, ages 10 and 12, planning to travel through Switzerland from Paris to Milan. We’ll arrive in Zurich on December 29 and stay there that night. After which we plan on exploring Interlaken, Lucerne, and other scenic routes via train and public transportation. My knowledge of Switzerland is limited, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m considering purchasing a 3-day Swiss Travel Pass and using Interlaken as our base for day trips. Ultimately, we plan to take a train from either Interlaken or Lucerne to Milan on January 1st.
What passes or day saver tickets would you recommend for our family? Since our kids are under 16, would two 3-day pass work for us? Additionally, if we activate the pass after arriving in Zurich on the 29th around 5 PM, will it still be valid for our train or bus to Milan on the morning of January 1st?

Nice that you are coming to Switzerland over Christmas and New Year.

The 3-day Swiss Pass is certainly a good option. The validity period for the activated days starts at 12:00 a.m. on the day of validity and ends at 5:00 a.m. on the following day.
Be aware that most of the touristic trains (Pilatus, Kleine Scheidegg-Jungfraujoch etc.) are not included in the Swiss Pass, but you have a discount of 50%.

Since you are traveling to Milan on January 1st, you will need an international ticket for that day from Interlaken or Lucerne to Milan. Therefore, a 4th day of the Pass is not necessary.
