The system will normally assign seats together. You can however also book this with Trenitalia, and I believe you can pick your seats there.

Ticketshop Trenitalia has more oprltions choosing your preferred seats. Quite often i have seen differencies between SBB timtable and ticketoffers Trentalia.

Please not that seat resveration is mandatory on this route and included in
ticketprice.
