RailEurope pass cheaper than SBB

Hi,

how come if i buy 2× Swiss Travel Pass 4 days, Adults + 2× Swiss Family Card, STS Family Child (kids travel free) it costs me CHF 590.00.

If I buy on RailEurope - 4x Interrail Switzerland Mobile Pass
4 days flexible pass it costs €562.

Where is the catch that buying this directly on SBB is much more expensive?

Very simple: you are comparing apples and oranges.

The Swiss Travel Pass offers more extensive free travel, plus a muesum pass, while the Interrail is covering train lines only.

Compare the validity maps and read about each product.

RolandP I just want a 4 day pass for the train lines. What options do you have on SBB that will be cheaper than what Interrail offers?

It depends on your itinerary and what you want to visit. Interrail is covering major train lines but not mountain excursions.

Another difference is that the Swiss Travel Pass gives you 50% off on most mountain railways, whareas the Interrail Pass only gives you 25% in most cases. And the family card you get with the STS also gives free travel to your kids on mountain railways.

So if your plan includes mountain excursions the STS may end up saving you more money.
