Train suppressed on 29th of December

There is a news of suppression of Eurocity trains on the Zurich Hb Milan line for the 29th of December. Which trains? Communicating this 2 weeks before Christmas holidays and doing this work during the holidays is just insane.

We are a customer support forum run by volunteers. Although we do understand your anger, we still like some niceties like a hello. It is not our fault either.

Due to maintenance work in the Gotthard Base Tunnel, which requires the closure of the eastern tunnel bore, certain IC and EC trains are cancelled on 29 December 2024.

Unfortunately, we do not have yet information on which trains will be cancelled. The online timetable is not yet up-to-date. If time permits, I will try getting more information from SBB to be published here.

Where did you see this news? I do not see anything currently on the SBB site.

Your trip will happen. If you have a train ticket from Zürich to Milano the railways must transport you. They cannot at their own discretion decide not to.

So your trip will happen. It might be according to a different schedule, but it will happen.

Thanks for the answer. Went to the sbb counter and they have no clue. I find this not acceptable that less than two weeks before we don’t know if our trip will happen or not.

I kindly disagree with your statement. If you have a train late in the afternoon and you are coming (like we are) from Rome with another connection and they decide to suppress the trains after a certain time for an early closure of the tunnel, the trip will not happen on that day.

An on time arrival is never guaranteed, it is not included in the contract. You must be prepared to have delays or cancellations, in advance or due to last minute problems, including an arrival on the next day. Sorry, but if you don’t accept this, choose another mode of transportation that is always on time.

I was assuming you were travelling Zurich - Milano. Now it is Rome - Zurich. That indeed changes things.
Anyway. I am still pretty confident that the trip will happen, as the railways will rather pay you a taxi to drive you to Zurich then pay for an expensive last minute hotel booking on the way. I think that however you will find out that there will be a train for you.

never thought otherwise. But can we agree that having planned work two weeks in advance and not being able to state which trains are going to be suppressed is a poor communication`and it is not a last minute problem? Come on.

I admit that the communication could be better, but we cannot influence it in this community. I suggest to make a complaint, follow the link in the previous post of @RolandP .

I don’t think that our role is to serve as a lightning rod for all problems caused by the SBB.

I understand your frustration; trust us, we do our best to help you in this situation. Again, we are volunteers, not the SBB Customer Services. We do appreciate your understanding and politeness.

We are trying to get some more information on that maintenance event and for the question, why the maintenance has been announced so late. I wrote to SBB (POSP CS010152801).

We are thankful if you write a complaint to SBB yourself.

I keep you posted on any information I get and that can be shared.

On December 29th it is not a problem to find rooms in Milano for a reasonable price, I don’t think that the railways will pay a taxi.

I hope that SBB is aware of this problem and doesn’t cancel the last connection of the day.

What I expect is that some trains might be cancelled, and others will be rerouted over the old route. I am pretty sure that something will be operating.
