Travel to Luxembourg. Or how to discourage people to travel by train...

In a few weeks I need to travel from Interlaken Ost to Luxemburg. There was a time there was even a direct train between these two places.
That train was discontinued, so nowadays you need to take a series of TER trains. Probably because SNCF is not interested in people not going to Paris.

And to drive this point home how much SNCF is not interested you, you can also not book tickets for that route. Neither SBB, nor SNCF are able to produce tickets for this route. And as expected the feedback the sites give you is useless.

I managed to figure out what to do (split the ticket in Strasbourg), but a normal traveller is probably looking at flights from Basel or Zurich by now…

Please, railways. Fix this.

I’m not sure if it is a problem of the railways. In France every region is responsible for the tariffs. The region Grand-Est has probably an agreement with the SBB for tickets between Basel SBB and France and another agreement with the CFL for tickets between France and Luxembourg, but no possibility to sell tickets CH - FR - LU.

This problem occurs often. I remember another discussion, it was impossible to buy a ticket from Stresa to Strasbourg via Switzerland. Luckily we are not “normal travelers” and we can help to solve such problems in this community.

There are also a few TGV between Mulhouse and Luxembourg, more comfortable as the TER.

Yes. But it is frustrating that when you try to encourage environmentally sound train travel then each time you find out that your biggest adversary is the railway itself. Especially SNCF seems to be hell bent on destroying anything that is not TGV.
