Reserving Super Saver Trip on Limited Service Station

Hi,

I’ll be traveling from Zurich Airport to Chur on Jan 18. I’m trying to book my ticket now, and under the Super Saver terms, it says that the ticket is only valid for the times/trains selected.

But then it says that there are disruptions:

The restriction lasts from 18.01.2025, 00:00 until 20.01.2025, 04:45. Passengers travelling between Zürich HB and Zürich Flughafen please use the Trains of the line S2.

Now, I’m curious if I book this ticket, but then there are either issues with my flight landing late (or baggage taking long to come out), or with the above disruptions… do I lose it? Or can I also use it at a different time and on different trains that connect the same stations?

If the flight is late, then yes you lose your Supersaver ticket. Therefore this ticket type is not recommended just after an inbound flight. In case a train service is cancelled, the Supersaver ticket would be fine on the following available connection.

The changes due to construction/engineering works around the airport station during that period are already reflected in the current timetable. For the first leg of the journey, only that S2 appears to be available as train departing the airport station. All other usual trains to Zurich main station appear to bypass the airport. There are alternatives involving a T10 tramway at the beginning with an additional transfer, meaning more hassle, therefore avoid.

I would add that you can buy a Saver Day Pass if such passes are available and cheaper as a point-to-point ticket.

Maybe I’m looking at it wrong, but it seems like the Saver Day Pass for that date is 49 CHF, while the regular full fare price for the point-to-point trip is 34 CHF. The benefit here of paying more for the Saver Day Pass is that it will cover any unforeseen delays and be valid regardless of which route/time I take?

In this case, the only advantage of a Saver Day Pass is that it is valid everywhere in Switzerland. After your arrival in Chur you could for example make an excursion to Arosa or St. Moritz on the same day.

In case of delays, the point-to-point tickets are valid in every train, but only for a single journey on the original route, unless the SBB explicitly authorize to use another route.

One final question to make sure I got this right:

Point-to-point is valid for that departure/arrival combination, at any time that day
Super Saver Ticket (point-to-point) is valid for that departure/arrival only at the selected time
Saver Day Pass is available for any train at any time that day

Is that it?

Yes, you are right, but, if it is a Supersaver Ticket, “point-to-point” is never added to avoid confusions. I would prefer the denominations “Flexible” or “Standard” used in other countries instead of “point-to-point”.
