Travel recommendations
Tip 1: Travel comfortably outside peak hours. After 8 a.m., before 4.30 p.m. and after 7 p.m. You will have more space and can travel stress-free. Please note that EuroCity (EC) trains are usually heavily used. Whenever possible, choose a different train.
Tip 2: At weekends and on public holidays, demand for connections through the Gotthard Base Tunnel is high. Combine your excursion with a trip over the historic Gotthard panorama route.
Tip 3: Seats can be reserved on InterCity (IC) and cross-border EuroCity (EC) trains. Reserve your seat for just CHF 5 per train at SBB.ch, with the SBB Mobile app, via the SBB Contact Center: 0848 44 66 88 (CHF 0.08/min.) or at the railway station counter. You can find information on additional trains and other travel recommendations at sbb.ch/zusatzzuege.
