Missing a train

Hi,

We have some delay in our flight and it looks like we might miss our train.
Is there something we can do besides buying a new ticket? Maybe to change the ticket or something?

We will appreciate any help🙏🏻

It depends.

First of all, you should reveal to us what kind of ticket you have. I.e. what does the ticket read in terms of ticket type, route, validity period, etc. ?
This might already answer your question.

If I understand correctly the ticket is “Supersaver Ticket” does it mean that I lost my money and I have to cut a new one?

Unfortunately a Supersaver ticket is the worst possible case in your situation, as it is only valid on the selected train(s) and there’s no exchange or refund in case of missing it due to a delayed flight…
This means you’ll need a new regular ticket.

If you had to repurchase a normal ticket, you can ask for a refund of the Supersaver ticket, provided the new ticket was issued for the same day, same route, same travel class:

Never buy a supersaver ticket when arriving by aire. Buy a regular ticket or if it is cheaper buy a saver day pass.
A regular ticket is good for a single trip on the route you bought it for, but is valid a whole day, so you can just use it on any departure convenient to you. This is what you buy when you buy the ticket at the station just before travel. And that is what most people get here.
A saver day pass is good for all the public transit in the country, for a whole day, and thus will permit you to reach your destination regardless of where it is…

Thanks for the useful information. It’s really helpful. We will ask for a refund and buy another kind of ticker for our return so we will not face the same problem🙏🏻

Actually for the return trip, you could consider a supersaver ticket if you’re confident you’ll make it to the selected train. Because if there’s a delay or cancellation with Swiss public transport and you miss a train (which rarely happens), that ticket will be also fine on the next train/bus. That rule just doesn’t apply if the reason for the delay / missing the train is with airlines or private long-distance bus companies such as Flixbus.
