The SBB barrier-free map and the RhB map both say that there is no wheelchairs access possible at all at Alp Grüm and Punt Muragl Staz stations. RhB has confirmed that although there’s step free access to the platform at Alp Grüm, there’s no level boarding and they will not provide a ramp or a lift.
What I want to know is how this situation is allowed. In an online article, SBB says:
We are therefore offering temporary alternative solutions at all stations that are not autonomously barrier-free from the beginning of 2024.
And
the law also allows alternative measures such as assistance from staff at train stations where the benefit of an adaptation is offset by disproportionately high costs. SBB is temporarily offering such assistance at all train stations that will not be autonomously barrier-free from the beginning of 2024.
I know that RhB is a separate train operating company and is not SBB. But SBB provides or coordinates assistance at RhB stations - RhB tells me I have to book assistance via SBB Contact Centre Handicap.
Please can I ask two questions:
- how is it possible that no assistance is provided at Alp Grüm and Punt Muragl Staz? No lift/ramp at Alp Grüm, and no shuttle bus from Punt Muragl Staz?
- how is this compatible with the BeHiG and with SBB’s commitment to “offer temporary alternative solutions at all stations that are not autonomously barrier-free”?
