Validity of point to point ticket

Hopefully a really simple question. If I buy a one way point to point ticket which may have several different routes using different connections, will the price be the same and can the ticket be used on any train on rhe connecting route? It’s just that I think I’ve seen some instances where there has been a different price, but I can’t be certain.

The ticket will have the route(s) where it is valid for mentioned on it. Often you do have multiple choices, eg a ticket Geneva - Zurich is valid both via Bern and via Neuchatel/Biel, but eg a ticket Luzern Bern for the route via the Emmenthal cannot be used on the trains that go via Zofingen.

Thank you for your reply. I think I may understand. Let me give you an example.

Say I want to book a ticket from Tirano to St. Margrethens.SG using the SBB web portal I can see two services:

1 - Depart 10:06 with changes shown at St. Moritz and Landquart, and
2 - Depart 11:00 with changes shown at Pontresina, Samedan, Chur and Sargans

When I click on “Select Tickets” I am taken to the next screen this shows the Start > End and “via” - which is the same as the number of changes.

This is then shown on the ticked and you are therefore restricted to any train of that day on that precise route - is that correct? This will apply if you are paying full or half price, but of course if you have a Swiss Pass then you can take any train.

In this case the Tariff is clear. In T604, 3.1.1 you can read:

Im Verkehr zwischen Samedan loco und transit und Landquart loco und transit sind die
Fahrausweise über Chur oder Davos oder Vereina gültig:
Wegevorschrift: Vereina o Albula

So in other words, a ticket that routes through Samedan and Landquart can be used on both the Albula and Vereina routes. The Albula route runs from st. Moritz to Chur, and the Verein route goes via the Tunnel between Saglianis and Klosters.

And in 3.1.2 you find:

Im Raum Samedan – - St. Moritz –- Pontresina sind alle über die folgenden Strecken
lautenden Fahrausweise, auch ohne entsprechende Wegevorschrift, wie folgt wahlweise
gültig:
…
Samedan loco und transit - Pontresina loco und transit oder umgekehrt
via Punt Muragl oder St. Moritz

So from Pontresina to Samedan you can go direct, or via st. Moritz.

So basically your ticket will show “via Verein o Albula” and you can thus use both routes, and you can also go both direct from Pontresina to Samedan, or detour via st. Moritz.

So both routes shown in the planner will be valid with the same ticket.
