Schindellegi-Feusisberg train station in two tarrif zones?

Hello,

I’m trying to understand what it means that Schindellegi-Feusisberg train station is both in ZVV in Zone 181 as per this link and in TVSZ in Zone 680 as per this link.

If I have ZVV All Zone Pass, does this mean I need to buy only a ticket from Schindellegi-Feusisberg if I want to go Schwyz?

I find that point-to-point ticket, for example, from Pfäffikon SZ to Schwyz (22.80 CHF) costs more than if I buy two tickets: Pfäffikon SZ to Schindellegi-Feusisberg Bahnhof (4.60 CHF) and then Schindellegi-Feusisberg Bahnhof to Schwyz (12.90 CHF).

The two separate tickets cost 17.5 CHF which is 5.30 CHF cheaper. From my understanding these two separate should be valid to travel directly from Pfäffikon SZ to Schwyz without having to get off at Schindellegi-Feusisberg Banhof since this station is in both ZVV and TVSZ. Am I understanding this correctly?

Hopefully someone can clarify this.

You almost understood everything correctly. The two separate zone tickets are indeed cheaper than the point-to-point ticket, but are valid ONLY IF both following conditions are met:
a) Schindellegi is on the border of the two involved fare networks / included in both zones (check)
b) your train on that route is actually stopping there (oops?)

So be careful to take some S Train which actually does stop in Schindellegi. If you take the IR train (Voralpen-Express) going nonstop from Pfäffikon to Biberbrugg, you would need to buy a ticket from the last actual stop within the ZVV network (= Pfäffikon in this case) to Schwyz.

RedBaron Thank you for that - I was looking at taking the S40 which does stop at Schindellegi.

I find it a bit strange that the point-to-point ticket for when I select the S40 shows me the higher prices than the two separate tickets - surely it can calculate the optimal price. It feels strange that I need to figure this out myself rather than SBB app automatically showing me the cheapest actual price for a one way ticket for the exact connection I’ve selected :/

Welcome to the Swiss “tariff jungle” 😉
The SBB Mobile app would charge you the cheapest ticket option/combination restrospectively if you would use EasyRide!

If buying a p2p ticket in advance from a connection chosen in the app, there is no guarantee that you will actually take that patricular train, since the ticket is valid all day on any earlier or later connection with any price tag.

Because the P2P ticket allows you to take direct trains that do not stop in Schindellegi. And because that ticket is valid the whole day…

Basically if you travel between places within a ZVV the ZVV tariff applies: Zone based, mode neutral, but tickets are only valid a few hours. Same for travel within TVSZ the same applies.

If you pick a trip that goes from one local tariff area to another then the national tariff is applied: KM based, tickets are good for all trains, and good for a day,

So two different products really.

It is going to become easier in the future when all of Switzerland moves to a zone based system.
