Hi, i have half fare travel card for 3 members of the family (parents and a youth ) and for the 13 year old, a free family card was issued when we bought the travel cards. But when buying online tickets for all, for the 13 yr old, there is no option to put family card in the drop down menu, so it appears he is charged for a day pass which is not required, as I understand. Any way to avoid this please? is it ok to chose Half fare travel card as we meant to buy that, but instead he was issued a free family card ? Thank You.

But the web site ( https://www.sbb.ch/en/tickets-offers/tickets/guests-abroad/swiss-family-card.html) has this "You receive the Swiss Family Card free of charge when you purchase a Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card. **Simply enter the children you are travelling with under “Add passengers”** on SBB.ch" Other reason was one leg of the journey need seat reservation. You should read the preceding sentence as well. The Swiss Family Card is automatically issued when you add a child during the purchase process of the Swiss Half Fare Card. Did you do this? For domestic travels, tickets do not come with seat reservations. They are to be purchased separately (if available at all), in a separate step, and cost the same, not matter if you possess the Swiss Half Fare Card or not. It would be much easier for us to explain if you could tell us for which route you would like to reserve seats. I see, This is very useful Roland, Yes, I did that when I bought the Swiss half fare cards. I was trying to book Zermatt to Stresa (Italy). This has a domestic leg and a part "Brig to Stresa" which auto reserves seats. If I add the child, he is charged for a day pass for the domestic leg (Zermatt to Brig) as I have to chose "no discount" option (family card option is not available here). If I didn't add the child, he doesn't get the seat reservation for "Brig to Stresa" train. Thank You very much GDC

You could add the Child, and select "Junior Card" as reduction. The Junior card is the same as the Family Card, but for locals. That way the system knows that your child travels free in Switzerland.

Hi, please let me know if this was ok for the inspection, as I am facing a similar problem having a 14yr-old travelling with us. I find it weird not to book a ticket for the child and just go with the assumption that the Swiss Familly card will act as a ticket. SBB could have put a simple option in there to not have foreign travellers go through this.

Why should SBB ask you to book CHF 0.00 tickets in addition when the family card is sufficient? Feedback is appreciated but please, first use the public transit system here, and then make up your mind. Simply have your physical passport or the bulletinul for everyone travelling with you on the train together with the tickets. Kind regards, Roland

RolandP Hi, I purchased swiss half fare card for me and my wife without adding the children. Is there a way I can add their details now? I don’t find an option.
Also, I am not able to cancel the half fare card to re-purchase it by adding our children. Is there a way I can do this?
If not, when I purchase a Jungfrau Travel Pass, can I get a family card for our children?

Krist Thank you for your response. As our first travel is going to be late night, I am not sure sure if someone will be there to support. Also, we may not have enough time to get it done after landing in Zurich - before catching the train.
Can the children travel without the family card and with the assumption that we could show their passport just in case there is a ticket checking during our first trip?
