Hi, I need to buy swiss travel pass for my visa purposes. I plan to keep the pass if the visa gets accepted but if it doesn’t I want to know if there is an option for refund at all? Please guide.

Yes, you can cancel it against a fee of CHF10.

However, there is no need to purchase domestic train tickets for a simple VISA request. It is sufficient to book accomodations in the country where you will be staying the most of your time; request the VISA from this country. If you enter Schengen via another country, you must have a proof of booking to show how you will travel from this country to the other.

Oh I see, so I will be staying the same amount of days in Switzerland and Italy. Do you think I will need to purchase the train tickets from Switzerland to Italy?

Given you will hold the Swiss Travel Pass, you can book an international ticket declaring ‘GA’ as discount type; by doing so, the Swiss stretch is not to be paid, yet you will get a ticket valid for the entire journey. But then you must purchase a Swiss Travel Pass latest upon arrival in Switzerland, for sure. This special Italian rail ticket is invalid without the Swiss Travel Pass.

The Swiss Travel Pass is refundable against a fee of CHF 10. When you purchase a ticket for Italy, make sure the ticket type you are buying allows its cancellation. Normally, Saver offers don’t.

The Swiss pass will allow me to book the Zurich HB to Milan ticket for free
The travel pass is refundable against a fee of CHF 10

I did not say this. The EC train is not free to Milan with the STP. Only the Swiss stretch from Milan to Chiasso is free; from there you need a ticket to Milan. But, you can book a ticket from Zurich to Milan, then declare the ‘GA’; by doing so, the system will book a ticket from Zurich to Milan, but you will only pay the part from the Swiss border (Chiasso) to Milan. For Zurich to Chiasso you can show the Swiss Travel Pass.

The Luzern Interlaken Express operates from Luzern to Interlaken. The seat reservation link above is correct.
