Saver Day Pass

Good evening.

My wife and I are traveling with two other couples who are friends.

We bought a “Saver Day Pass”. We plan to leave Milan for Zermatt, where we will stay for a few hours. Then we will continue our journey to Zurich, where we will sleep in a hotel.

My question is whether I can use the “Saver Day Pass” for the entire journey between Milan and Zermatt or just for part of the journey. If only part of the journey, where can I use the “Saver Day Pass” from?

My second question is about the second journey, whether I need to make a reservation or if I just show the “Saver Day Pass” ticket and get on the train of my choice, obviously taking into account the class of the ticket I purchased.

You must buy tickets from Milan to Domodossola. Reservations are mandatory in the Eurocity and included. I suggest to buy these tickets on trenitalia.com. Please note that the line will be closed this summer and replacement buses will be available.

In Switzerland, no reservations or tickets are necessary, simply show your passes with your physical passports or identity cards.

I purchased a Saver day pass from Zurich airport to Zermatt at 11:45, if I wish to change to the 13:45 train what are the chances of having seats available?

You did not buy a “Saver Day Pass form Zurich to Zermatt” as such a product does not exist. What you probably did was select the 11:45 on the SBB website, and the system then suggested a Day Pass to you, as it was the cheapest option available at that time.

With that pass you can take all public transit in Switzerland for the whole day you bought it for. So you can take earlier trains. You can take later trains. You can take a scenic detour. You can even decide to go somewhere completely different than Zermatt…

Note that you thus did not buy seats on the 11:45, nor on the 13:45.
