Luzern-Interlaken Express

Hello. I am flying into Zurich this week. I am going to Interlaken and want to go via Luzern so I can take the Luzern-Interlaken Express. Should I purchase my tickets in advance before I go? Or should I wait until I land in Zurich. I don’t wanna buy tickets and then risk a flight delay and miss the train. However, I also want to ensure a spot on the Luzern-Interlaken Express. Any recommendations?

You can well purchase this ticket on-site after arrival. Or you could purchase a normal point-to-point ticket now. The price is the same: CHF 59. There might be a Saver Day Pass for CHF 52 which is also valid for that route; check its availability:

In Switzerland, a train ticket does not guarantee a seat, just the transportation. And there is always a seat left for one person.

I found a SuperSaver ticket for 38.80 CHF. This ticket goes from Zurich to Luzern and then Luzern to Interlaken on the express. I will plan on purchasing this ticket upon arrival in Zurich. Would that work?

You cannot buy a supersaver ticket upon arrival. Supersaver tickets are discounted tickets that you must buy in advance, and that limit you to the service you selected during the purchase.

Normal tickets allow you to take any service on a route and can be purchased on site.

If I purchase a point-to-point ticket, can I get on the train at different times. For example, if I purchase a point to point for a train at 10:38 A.M but miss the train due to a plane delay. Can I get on the train at 11:38 A.M with no problem?

A point-to-point ticket is always valid all day, check the validity details behind the (i) symbol. You don’t buy it for a specific train, but for a specific route. The webshop is simply suggesting the correct ticket for any selected connection.

You cannot buy a point-to-point ticket for a particular train. Such a ticket is always for a route. So you are never limited to the train you selected.

In the past when buying tickets online or at the ticket machine all you needed to enter was the origin and destination, and the date. Only recently have the railways started by first showing you a schedule, that you pick a train out of. But once you have picked a train you will be offered the different ticket types that are relevant for your selection.
