I was able to speak with a customer service representative at SBB and the problem was two fold. THere is an issue using my card on the website, but she assured me it would not be a problem at the kiosk or with at a teller in a station. Also, one of the tickets I was trying to reserve was not available for reserve at all. She explained that at the transfer point, that portion could not be reserved and that was another reason I could not complete the task.
I have traveled in Europe multiple times on the awesome trains, but not yet in Switzerland. She assured me there would not be a problem for our party to show up at the station 30 minutes or so before we wish to travel and purchase our seats then. This is for general train travel from town to town or day trips. We do have our Golden Pass train tickets reserved.
So I believe we are good.
