Geneve to Milan

Good evening,

This summer, I am hoping to travel from Geneve to Milan and I can see that there are usually direct trains running at around 4 hours.

But when I try to purchase tickets for the end of July, I am being shown routes of 5hr30 and longer. Is something happening to that route this summer? Or am I just trying to book my tickets too early?

The line will be closed due to engineering works. It is too early to purchase tickets for the replacement buses, the timetables are currently not published. You should try later.

From 8 June to 27 July and from 31 August to 12 September 2025, the line between Domodossola and Milan will be completely closed to rail traffic. This means that all EC trains between Domodossola and Milan will be cancelled. A rail replacement strategy with buses is currently being developed.

Last year you had replacement buses from Domodossola to Milan and from Geneva/Lausanne to Milan.

If I remember correctly, the line between Brig and Domodossola was also closed during certain periods. I don’t know if engineering works are again planed.

No, what you should do is just wait. There is no need to book train travel this far in advance. This is mass transit. The regional trains that are currently still shown in the timetable will also be replaced by busses. Time table is just not up to date yet.
