Dear SBB, If I have a valid ZVV 110 zone ticket, when I plan to take the train IR 46 (Direction InterRegio 2413 Lucarno) from Zurich to Zug, do I need to pay the total price (17.4 CHF), or I can only need to pay for the additional zones (exclude 110 zones)? Thanks,

You need to buy a ticket for the entire route. Your ZVV zone 110 ticket is not valid on the IR train non-stop to Zug.

are you sure? If I buy a ticket from Zug to Zurich I am not buyng a point to point ticket, I’m buying a ticket that covers the zones and according to History – Z-Pass The Z-Pass zone tickets replaced the previous point-to-point tickets between two locations in the ZVV and a neighbouring fare network. With the introduction of the new single tickets and day passes for the Z-Pass on 9 December 2012, the customer was able to make as many journeys as they wish within the zones purchased and the validity period of their ticket with all types of public transport. Long-distance SBB AG trains are also included. Previously up to three tickets, or for certain routes, the City-City ticket, were required for such journeys.
Is there somebody from SBB that can confute this?

Kindly note, the discussion was about using a long-distance train (IR, IC, EC) with a ZVV zone 110 ticket. Using an IR, IC, EC, you must buy a ticket from the train’s last stop covered by your zone ticket. The OP have a ZVV 110 ticket, valid for Zurich city only. The train’s last stop within zone 110 is Zurich HB, the train’s next stop is Zug. So, the OP have to buy a ticket from Zurich to Zug and cannot buy a ticket extension, for example from Zurich Wollishofen (last station within zone 110) to Zug. Such a combination is only possible when using the S-Bahn services which do stop at Zurich Wollishofen.

Your case is different, your ticket is valid on IR trains because IR trains do stop in Zug and Zurich and your ticket covers the entire route.
