Hello Thoiseambie68
Welcome to the SBB Community.
The majority of the public transport operators allow you to board the vehicle without showing anything to anyone as ticket checks do nowadays rather happen randomly than systematically; the latter is slowing down the boarding process which makes our public transit inefficient and this is not what we Swiss want to see.
You can find a yellow eye on the door, indicating it is the passenger’s responsibility to have a valid ticket; if not, there is a fine for travel without a valid ticket.
Thus,
- make sure you have got the ticket before boarding the train/bus/tramway.
- simply show the ticket along with your physical passport when you are asked for it.
It is different for cable cars and gondolas where you often have to pass a turnstile to get in.
Kind regards,
Roland
