nightjet 403 from Köln to Zurich, buy seat ticket?

I want to take this train on May 3rd but it seems like it is not possible to book on oebb.at nor sbb.ch. On db.de there is a 1st class option for 330euro, not mentioning seat or beds, but anyway it is outside my affordability. Too bad if the entire train is completely sold out even though I kind of doubt that it can happen.

So if I just cannot get a ticket beforehand, can I just board the train, sit in the seat section, and then activelz seek the conductor and buy ticket?

If you just board the train and sit in the seat section you will be fined as it is mandatory to have your ticket before you board. And on top of that you will have to pay the normal flexpreis fare, which is 148,60 euro.

What you could do in stead is just book the IC 60403. I see tickets for 49,99 at the moment. That is the same train as the NJ 403, just a different part that is marketed by DB/SBB in stead of OBB.

oh wow. Thanks for the reply. Can you educate me on how I can book the IC 60403 ? I tried to search Köln to Zurich but only find NJ403 or another option (ICE + IC) with change at Mannheim (arrive at 2am, leave at 3.30am)

Go to www.bahn.de. Search for “Koelln” to “Zurich” and the IC 60403 should turn up as one of the options. I did when I tried. Note train starts from Koeln Deutz, not main station.

You can also select “Direct Trains Only” in the menu, and then you get:
