Train in Milan question

Hi! My family is traveling to Switzerland in October. We are staying in Lucerne the last couple days and want to travel by train to Milan. I see the train in Lucerne is close to our hotel. But I don’t know what train to get in Milan. It looks like more than one train station. We are staying at a hotel near the MXP airport. Thanks for your help!! Cindy

You can take a train to Lugano, from Lugano you have direct trains to Malpensa Airport Terminals 1 and 2. You have usually a connection every hour, sometimes with a second change in Arth-Goldau. Check if your hotel offers a shuttle bus from the airport.

Please note that only one part of the train from Lugano goes to the airport, observe the indications on the carriages to be in the right part.

There’s a chance that you would consider some sections of the ride as scenic.
At least those outside of tunnels. 🙂

You have two routes: the new one with the world’s longest railway tunnel (57 km) and the old one which is more scenic. If you have enough time, choose the old line.

If you search a timetable between Luzern and Malpensa on sbb.ch and add « via Airolo », you will travel on the old line with trains called « Treno Gottardo ». You can find connections with only one change in Bellinzona instead of Lugano.
