I live near the “Lonay-Preverenges” stop.

A few years ago there used to be one train in the morning that went directly to Geneva. They no longer seem to have this! Does anyone know why they stopped and whether there are plans to bring it back?

Have you heard about the construction works Léman 2023 and the adjusted timetable due to fewer tracks available during the construction works?

A central principle of Swiss timetabling is that you basically create a timetable for one hour, and then repeat that the whole day. So you have trains every hour or every half hour.

Doing it like that means that you only have to solve timetable conflicts once.

Once-a-day trains do not really fit very well in that concept. Hence SBB tries to avoid those as much as possible.

Sure, but they have exceptions to that for good reasons. Like the winter direct connection from Geneva to Le Chable.

I assume this connection existed for people who lived in the area and go to work in Geneva. Makes sense because the direct train time is not much more than 35 minutes but changing in Morges brings it close to an hour. That’s why I ask the question.

Of course, if they could have better connections to Geneva through the day it would be great! But I guess they prefer to subsidize cars rather than trains.
