However, I couldn't find the answers for the following doubts: 1) Is this pass valid for cable car, funicular at the mountain area? For example: - Gondola ride from Grindelwald to First - Train from Tarch to Zermatt, from Zermatt to Gornegrat - Leukerbad to Gemmi pass cable car ride 2) Can I purchase the Day Pass for 2 on the day itself? You obviously missed the link to the area of validity map on the respective conditions page.

Rule of thumb: Day passes are public transportation passes to permanently populated places, while (expensive) touristic mountain rides to summits etc. are not included. Therefore in your list, only the short train ride between Täsch and Zermatt would be fully covered with that day pass.

The Swiss Half Fare Card (also valid on most mountain rides) along with individual half fare tickets might be a better deal, if you add at least one more ‘substantial’ ride to your bucket list. (Täsch would however indicate that you have a car)

Ya. We are travelling with self drive, therefore only need cable car, funicular at the mountainous region.
So I think it is not worth to opt for this since it is not completely free.

The combination of car and train is the most expensive way of travel in Switzerland. Almost all places that are interesting for tourists are not accessible by car; thus, you will always need a train / cable car / gondola / mountain train to get there while you have to park your car in one of the expensive parkings, if you then find a free parking lot.

On the other hand, there is no travel pass that covers all mountain excursions free of charge. The Swiss Half Fare Card is at least cutting the cost and gives a 50 % reduction. The complimentary Swiss Family Card gives free travel for your children aged 6-15.99 years, should you have kids.

Make yourself a spreadsheet and calculate the cost for each excursion. If you will spend CHF 240 on tickets per person, the CHF 120 Swiss Half Fare Card is a good investment.

Yes, I have worked out a spreadsheet to compare all sorts of transportation options. So far the Swiss Half Fare Pass is the best option before I came across the Day Pass for 2 (which I thought it allows us to get free ride for any excursions 😅).
