Swiss Half Fare card

I had a follow on question to a question I posted a couple of months ago https://community.sbb.ch/d/34752-international-train-booking

Will the Swiss Half Fare card apply / help to booking tickets on travel between Dijon, France to Zurich if I book on the sbb site? Or does the card only apply to train travel within Switzerland?

The Swiss Half Fare Card is valid only in Switzerland from Basel. In this case, you must buy tickets in two transactions:

— French tickets from Dijon to Basel without the the Half Fare Card.
— Swiss tickets from Basel to Zurich with the Half Fare Card.

However, it is probably cheaper to buy tickets from Dijon to Zurich without the Half Fare Card if you choose discounted prices (semi flexible or non flexible tickets) and you take a direct TGV from Dijon to Zurich.

Just to confirm: I take it you mean it would probably be cheaper to just book the journey on the SCNF site vs sbb?

The prices are the same, except small differences due to the exchange rate EUR - CHF.

However, when you start the trip in France, I recommend to buy the tickets on the SNCF site. You may get a better support in case of problems (delays, strikes). You can also exchange or cancel the tickets online (if the conditions allow that). Create an account and don’t buy tickets as a guest.
