I will be travelling to Switzeland in June and I’m thinking to purchase my tickets online in advance when the ticket sale starts. I’ll be arriving to Zurich airport at 10:35am and I’m thinking to purchase the 12pm train to Zermatt from Zurich airport. If I purchase the day saver pass and my flight happens to delay can I use the same ticket for a later departure time? Thank You.

As a general rule, in Switzerland you buy tickets for a route and not for a specific connection. Thus, yes, the Saver Day Pass is valid on any connection on that day.

The only ticket which is tied to a certain connection/train is the Supersaver ticket. This is only valid on the trains as indicated on the ticket.

Reconsider the Swiss Half Fare Card should you spend more than CHF 240 per adult on tickets for all your planned journeys in Switzerland.

Hi Roland,

Thank you for your clarification. I will be purchasing the swiss half fare card as well but I wanted to plan my days ahead so I wanted to purchase the train tickets prior to arrival as long as I can use the same saver day pass for a later departure time then I’m good. I’m only a little bit worries about flight delays that’s all.

As a general rule, a seat reservation on IC trains is not required. It makes sense, or is sometimes even mandatory, to reserve seats on PE or international trains.
