Hello NW1480
Making the day trip with the wedding party to and family to Zermatt
I see. Hopefully, there is a bad weather excursion program, too 🙂
I suggest you to download the SBB Mobile app. It is your mobile ticket desk from where you can purchase all tickets. By defining the departure and end destinations, and whether it is a single or return trip, the app will suggest the best tickets for all declared passengers.
Create an account on www.sbb.ch/en > Login, then use the same credentials for the SBB Mobile app’s login. Then, go to Profile > Co-Passengers and enter all passengers with their date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy).
For a day trip to Zermatt, the SBB Mobile app will certainly suggest a Saver Day Pass.
You have to calculate and sum up the ticket cost (full fare) for all trips you are intending to take. If you spend more than CHF 240 per adult person, it makes sense to get the Swiss Half Fare Card in addition. It comes with the complimentary Swiss Family Card, it allows your kids aged 6-15.99 years to travel for free when accompanied by at least one parent and the parent holds a valid ticket.
Alternatively, for the kids, you could purchase the Junior Card at the ticket office at Geneva Airport or Geneva, It costs CHF 30 per child, is valid one year, and offers the same amenities as the Swiss Family Card. The Day Pass for Children would be another possibility; it costs CHF 19 per day & child, and is valid on the entire public transit network for a day.
I do not think that a pass is worth the money as you will not spend all days on travelling. Using the Swiss Travel Pass, you would have to spend an equivalent of CHF 74 per day on tickets in order to be break even.
Kind regards,
Roland
