Is 8 minutes sufficient for a train to boat transfer (with luggage) at Interlaken Ost 1559-1607hrs?

Yes, it is sufficient if the train is on time. Maybe boats wait for slightly delayed trains, but I’m not sure.

If looking at your connection in the SBB Mobile app or online on sbb.ch, you can view the map at Interlaken Ost (and switch to satellite view) in order to get an idea.
The jetty at the Aare river is just a stone’s throw from the train station.

Yes, thanks for the suggestion - I had looked at the SBB station map and was interested to know if anyone had done the transfer, in particular with luggage.

What is your departure station? If you come from Germany with this Eurocity the probability that it will be late is very high, but this is a replacement train starting in Basel.

If suggest to board at the rear of the train in Bern, Thun or Spiez, at the front in Basel or Olten, in direction of travel.

Departing from Basel 1356 8July (description “EC” so does that originate in Germany?) but arrival Interlaken Ost seems to be slightly later since I booked so a few minutes less time to transfer, hence my concern..

Thanks for your good advice re seating - I guess train direction of travel changes in Bern so front becomes rear (unless I’m misreading SBB map)?

I’m wondering if contingency if we miss might be to hop in a taxi to ext ferry stop at Bonigen!

Yes, the train direction changes in Bern. You have also buses between Interlaken Ost and Bönigen every 30 minutes:

Usually Eurocity (EC) trains come from another country, in this case from Germany, but a change is now necessary in Basel because the trains arrive never on time in Basel. The German Railways have a very bad punctuality. This train a replacement train starting from Basel.

Thanks - I don’t know whether that train EC31313 comes from Germany (which you suggest might delay). I now see that there is a note on SBB website about schedule change due to engineering work.
Thanks for bus details for chasing the ferry to Bonigen instead of using taxi but I think bus would be too slow as we would have only 18 minutes!

The train starts one minute earlier in Basel due to the engineering work, but the online timetable is adapted.

Yes, this train is now a “Swiss” train.

SBB have the best punctuality in Europe (about 93%), but to know that doesn’t help you if you are in a delayed train (7%)…
