If you have a flexible ticket, you can ask at the ticket office in Milan for a new reservation in another train (free of charge).
If you have a non-flexible ticket (Smart), you must take this train. A exchange to another train is only possible if the delay is 60 minutes or more, but you must also obtain a new reservation.
