Process for door to door luggage shipment

Hello! Can someone please tell me how the luggage pickup process works when I leave my luggage at a hotel to be picked up and delivered to another hotel? I see the bag identification label/bag tag that we need to fill out, but how does the agent picking up the bag verify that there is a point to point train ticket to match the shipment? Does the person shipping the luggage need to be present when the bag is picked up?
