I am travelling with my cousin and husband (3 of us). Our plan is to stay in Zurich and do day trips from Zurich to 1. Spent the day exploring Zurich (9th of August) 2. Zurich to Lucerne- Interlaken Ost for the scenic route (back to our hotel the same day) (10th of August) 3. Zurich to Liechtenstein - back the same day (11th of August) 4. Zurich to Bern - back the same day (12th of August) 4. Zurich to Basel - to fly back to the UK (13th of August) Please can you recommend a ticket that would work out cheapest for 3 of us or should we buy tickets separately for each day? Worth mentioning that we will be spending 4 nights in Austria (exploring Vienna, Salzburg, Hallstatt, Innsbruck and Wrefen) before heading to Zurich. But not sure If it will be useful here.

Can you quickly explain why you have chosen Zurich as a base which is in my opinion totally inconvenient for your itinerary, and is anything but inexpensive.

I chose Zurich as base just because it has better or regular direct train times to get around for day trips. We don’t want to be hauling our luggage around

I am open to other options as I havent booked any accommodation yet.

Thank you for your question. In my opinion, an Interrail Global Pass could be a good advise. You can use it both in Austria and Switzerland. So you would only need a Zurich Card (24h) in addition, for your day exploring Zurich, since bus and tram is not included.

Depending on your age, you even get discount on the Interrail passes.
