Lost bag with laptop and house keys

I lost my bag containing my laptop, house and office keys with some other items in the train from lucerne (8:54 am) to Olten (9:28 am) this morning (28/06/2025). Since the next connection was in five minutes I ran towards the next train without realising about the missing bag, as soon as I entered the next train I realised the bag was missing and I tried to get down but the train started already to sissach as next stop, I immediately reported lost request and called the station at Olten they said since the Olten was last stop for that particular train and the train is not running anymore they can’t do the express search), I came back anyway from sissach to Olten (it took some 50 mins since the lose), and I met the SBB authorities they told me they can’t do anything as the train was stopped and now it’ll go to lost and found in Bern and from there they’ll contact me fury if they found it. However I could track the location of my laptop moving from Lucern to Immensee to Arth and goldau, and now since last five hours the last location of the laptop is showing Bahnhofstraße 2, 6410, Goldau. I asked if the SBB people at from Olten could make a call at goldau Bahnhof to check for the bag but they denied that. And asked me to just wait. I am worried that t
If someone stole it from the train with them then I need to file the police complaint for my laptop atleast. But since it was Saturday and Sunday tomorrow all the police stations were closed in Olten, I live in Germany so now I’m going back, am not sure if I should file police complaint in Germany, or come back Olten on Monday to file the police complaint or just wait for SBB to reach out to me. Please someone can help it’ll be very much appreciated…

If it is correct, the laptop was found by the train staff of the Südostbahn and it will be transferred to the SBB in Bern. It could take at least three weeks before you get news. Did you already submit a loss report?

Danhiel Thankyou for the information, I really appreciate it. Yes I made the lost and found request within 10 mins of losing it, however I should have called first for 50 chf checking.

Also the location of my laptop is same what you said near coop supermarket. However it’s not moving anymore since last 6 hours.

I just have one more question, I don’t have problem in waiting for 3 weeks, but I just want to confirm somehow that it’s with SBB and not stolen by someone and I don’t need to file a police complaint.

This train was not operated by SBB, but by SOB (Südostbahn). It is a SOB location not open to the public, I didn’t find any phone number. You can try to call the headquarter of the company, but I doubt that they can give such information, especially on weekends:

If the bag is already transferred to the SBB, it is impossible. They have hundreds of lost items to be identified.

In Arth-Goldau, the Coop supermarket is located in the train station building.
Lost items found in all trains are first collected in dedicated containers at manned stations, then those containers will be eventually shipped to the lost&found centre (where inspecting and registering the huge amount of items takes some time).
Therefore it’s much more likely that your bag is with SBB than with a kleptic Coop staff member.

Danhiel Thanks for your response. I tried using this link for my laptop to file the complaint but in the end after all the questions it always ask me to go to police station physically, and all of them are closed for the weekend.

In Switzerland you have 3 months to file a complaint in case of minor offenses (Source: Gemini):

Criminal Law (Swiss Criminal Code - SCC)

This concerns reporting a crime to the police.

Right to file a complaint (Droit de porter plainte):

For certain minor offenses (e.g., insult, minor property damage), the victim must file a formal complaint themselves. This right expires 3 months after the victim has identified the offender (Art. 31 SCC).

it is not necessary to make it now and it is probably only to get a refund from your insurance. The police certainly don’t open an investigation for every lost laptop.

It could be more important to inform your insurance immediately. However, I don’t think that the loss of items is covered, probably not if you cannot prove that that it was a theft.

Danhiel Yeah I thought if SBB can atleast say it isn’t with them I can somehow confirm to the insurance that it was stolen.
