Travel to Jungfraujoch

Hello all, we are a group of 4 people and would like to travel to Jungfraujoch. We are travelling from Freiburg, Germany. Once we reach Basel, can we travel to Lauterbrunnen using the Day pass ticket? Also can we board any train, such as IC, ICE, EC etc? Or are there any restrictions?

A (Saver) Day Pass will cover you till Wengen or Grindelwald. From there on you will need an additional ticket.
The Day Pass is good for any train (in fact any public transport) in Switzerland. Unlike Germany here a train is a train. A ticket good for travel on a route is good for travel in any train on the route.
Note that the ticket for the Jungfraujoch is expensive. So expensive in fact that you ought to get the Half Fare Card.

Hello Krist,

Thanks for your response. Yes I see how expensive it is!!! 🙁 The half fare itself is expensive - 190 EUR, and it’s for 1 year. We are there only for 2 days. Still should I go for half fare card? Or just take day ticket (70 EUR per day per person) to travel until Eigergletscher and then take separate ticket - 160 EUR to Jungfraujoch.

As you’re mentioning 2 days: Usually a saver day pass would not be cheaper than a regular single journey (point-2-point) ticket between Basel and Grindelwald/Wengen.

Note that Eigergletscher is already located in the ‘expensive zone’ of Junfrau Railways. As some reservation/priority boarding system is effective right now for Jungfraujoch, I’d suggest to get the Jungfrau Railways tickets between Grindelwald/Wengen and the ‘Top’ directly from their website, where you can also specify travel cards such as the Swiss Half Fare Card mentioned by Krist above, and check how they’d affect the ticket prices.

Even with only 2 travel days, a SHFC should usually already pay off if Jungfraujoch is involved.

There is a HFC for 1 month, that costs 120,- CHF.

Thank you guys for your feedback. Much appreciated. I just have one last question. I just found that there is a Jungfrau pass (costs 210 CHF) which can be used to travel around the region starting from Interlaken Ost. I also see that it reduces the Jungfraujoch ticket to 85 CHF.

Please let me know if you think this is also a viable option to consider.
