Where to put larger luggage

Question: we are traveling from La Spezia Friday morning on the Intercity 662 to Milano.

Is there an area on this train that allows you to store larger pieces of luggage (large suitcase)?

The same question would go for our connection from Milan to Zürich - areas within the cabin to store large luggage

Trains have usually such areas, but it is impossible to answer these questions. We don’t know what kind of carriages are in use in whole Europe. The areas may be already occupied by other passengers with large suitcases if the train is very busy. You must improvise, you can sometimes put the luggage between or over the seats, but don’t obstruct the aisles, doors or other security areas. Or travel with small suitcases.

How do you designate which is which in your tickets

Understandable, but we just took a train with assigned seats from Pisa, and there was not one single area to put larger suitcases and they were roughly 5 people that had to stand in the aisles with their suitcases because the car was unaccommodating.

In past trips plenty of the trains traveled had areas near the entry for oversized luggage - just curious of this was going to be the case on the next leg

In Italy if your ticket came without a seat assignment you are in a regional train.

Regarding where to put your luggage: On single deck trains you can use the overhead racks even for big suitcases. I have a suitcase that is the maximum for checked airline luggage (and it still gets delivered on the oversized luggage belt occasionally) and it fits there perectly.

Als you can often put luggage between seat backs, especially on regional trains.

However I often see that people travel with to much luggage, or inappropriate luggage. For travel in Europe a wheeled duffel is much better then the maximum sized four wheeled spinner I see a lot of tourist travel with.
