Swiss travel pass unlinked and ability to use app

I purchased my Swiss pass ( I do not have it yet) with a travel company and I want to use the Swiss app. I am gathering I will need to carry the printed qr code but can I still use the functions of the sbb app? Namely, will I be able to program my route and still have the app show me the route/stops and a timeliness of where I am on the route?

Welcome to the SBB Community.

First of all, you are talking about the Swiss Travel Pass, not Swiss Pass. The SwissPass is a thing for Swiss residents.
There is no need to purchase the Swiss Travel Pass with a travel agency, you could have got it easily from SBB directly, and even have it as e-ticket right in the SBB Mobile app.

You can use the PDF ticket as well, and yes, you can use the SBB Mobile app to get timetables and additional tickets.

Keep in mind, the Swiss Travel Pass needa your passport or official ID card to be valid. Thus, you have to carry your physical passport when ever you use the Swiss Travel Pass. Paper copies or images of the passport on the phine are not accepted.

You probably purchased the “Swiss Travel Pass”, not the “Swiss Pass”. The former allows a tourist to travel freely, the latter is a plastic chip card that is given to locals that have a commuter pass or discount subscription. The naming is rather confusing unfortunately…
You do not need to have the Swiss Travel Pass loaded in that app. You do not even need an account to use the app. You can use it to plan trips without any problem.

Thank you the correction. I see I can use the app but will I be able to program my route so I can use the app to help with my connection stops, since my actual ticket will be paper?

In hindsight, I should have purchased through the app. I thought it would be convenient to have all my travel from one source. Thankyou for the reminder to keep my passport handy.

Just go and download the SBB Mobile app, open it, then go to tab ‘Plan’ and enter the from/to destinations and voilà, there is your trip planning with all possible connections.
