Just select “seat reservation only” on www.sbb.ch.
But for most practical purposes the STP is indeed the same as the GA. It is only for some mountain railways that there is a difference. But mountain railway tickets you do not buy in advance anyway.
Note that from Lugano to Menaggio there is also an Italian bus that goes every hour. The Bernina Express bus is not really intended for passengers just going to Menaggio.
