Using Easyride with half fare card

I am traveling to Switzerland with family, we’ve all bought our half fare cards. My cousin, a resident and citizen of Switzerland says that I can use the Easyride mode in the SBB app even as a tourist. I do have made an account on the SBB site and am logged in on the app. But I am not sure if I can use the Easyride mode while also getting the half fare card benefit of 50% off as I don’t see any way to link my half fare card to the app or to my account.
The app does allow me to select the knid of card that I have and I can choose the half fare card there… though it doesn’t ask for me to scan or enter my card’s details.

Correct, because this is the ticket inspector’s duty …

You are probably talking about the Swiss Half Fare Card.

I, personally, would not recommend EasyRide to a tourist.

There are other inexpensive offers such as the Saver Day Pass or tourist offers like the Bernese Oberland Pass.
And, you must make sure you have got unlimited roaming as the mobile data has to be activated constantly.

Plus, you always have to carry your physical passport or official identity card. If not, the Swiss Half Fare Card or e-tickets are not valid.

The app itself doesn’t check whether you have a valid half fare card or not. Simply select half fare as discount option in your passenger details, where you also set your birthdate.
That check happens only while traveling with some ticket saying ‘half fare’, then the ticket inspectors will insist on also seeing your half fare card.

But as Roland already stated, EasyRide makes only sense on shorter trips if traveling within regional fare networks (or associated neighboring networks such as Z-Pass), but not on longer routes where nothing else than a point-to-point ticket would be retrospectively charged. So EasyRide won’t find anything cheaper than the applicable point-to-point ticket, while you could get cheaper saver day passes or supersaver tickets if purchased a few days before the travel date.

With the (Swiss) Half Fare Card, Easy Ride will not charge more than a day pass for the half fare card.

Without the (Swiss) Half Fare Card, Easy Ride can get a very costly thing.

But still, there are better tourist offers.
