Italy rail strike 4/5 SEP 25

The latest info I have is that the rail strike in Italy scheduled for September 4 & 5 has not been settled. We are traveling from Zürich to Como. I have not received communication yet from SBB about a possible interruption. Wondering if the train will go as far as Chiasso or be canceled. Is it still too early to hear anything? If so, what usually happens? Thank you.

I don’t see any reason to cancel the trains from Zürich to Chiasso, they are also used for travel within Switzerland, not only for international passengers. If they were cancelled despite this, you could take other regional trains from Lugano. From Chiasso to Como you have also local buses (if the bus drivers don’t strike…).

Normally when there is a strike some trains nevertheless run.

So the following could happen:

Your train runs as normal. So just use it to travel to Como.
Your train terminates in Chiasso. In that case use another train or bus. There are normally 5 trains per hour on that route. Chances are some will run.

Thank you both very much for your responses. I’ll keep checking the SBB website & my email for changes. Good to know there’s still a chance the Zurich to Como train will run as usual. Thanks again.

SBB often has no accurate information either as strike actions have their own dynamics. The situation can change within hours.

According to the latest operational information, however, for ⅘ SEP, all EC trains are supposed to operate, so do the rail replacement busses (construction works) along the Simplon line.
