1st class upgrade

Hello, we will be travelling from Lucerne to Salzburg in May and will have the second class Swiss travel pass. I understand this covers the journey from Lucerne to Buchs SG and we’ll need to purchase a ticket from Buchs SG to Salzburg. I understand how I can do that on the app however we would like to upgrade to first class for this part of the journey. Is it possible just to walk through from the second class carriage to first class? If not , how would we do this please?

I would add that you can buy reduced-cost class upgrades (Half Fare) with your Swiss Travel Passes. It could motivate you to also use 1st class in Switzerland with upgrades and reserve 1st class seats from Zurich to Salzburg as indicated above.

You can walk from 2nd class to 1st class, no problem.

But do you plan on only buying 2nd class for Buchs - Salzburg? When bought sufficiently in advance 1st class on ÖBB is not expensive. With an SBB 1st class upgrade you can then travel all the way in 1st.

So you would then purchase:

A 1st class ticket Buchs - Salzburg (without reservation)
A 1st class upgrade Luzern - Buchs.
A seat reservation for Zurich - Salzburg.

Krist thank you. We are buying a second class 8 day Swiss travel pass. I will definitely look into what you have suggested for the 1st class upgrade between Lucerne & Buchs. Thanks again
