EC trains between Domodossola and Milan

Has anyone else encountered the same situation? I originally planned to take the train from Domodossola to Milan on January 4th, 2026, but I just received an email informing me that this train will not run until January 5th, 2026. I checked online and found that a shuttle bus will take me to Milan during this period, but I haven’t received any information about the shuttle bus. On the day of the trip, can I just go and take the shuttle bus with my train ticket?or do I need to cancel my original train ticket and rebook the shuttle bus ticket?

As indicated in the previous post, cancel the ticket and buy a new one is not necessary, you would have to pay a fee, but I would ask the SBB if they could exchange the ticket free of charge. Replacement bus may be cheaper as the train and you would have a reservation.

Which connection did you originally intend to take? The screenshot you show mentions Milano Porta Garibaldi, which is normally the destination of regional trains. The EC trains go to Milano Centrale.

The message you got also does not indicate that the train is not running. You are only being informed that you need to check the state of the schedule yourself before you travel.

Nevertheless, what you should never, ever, ever do when a railway changes their schedule is cancel your ticket. You have a ticket to Milano for January 4th, so to Milano the railways must transport you. If the railways decided to replace a train with a bus than your train ticket will be accepted in the bus.

Sorry, it’s Milano Porta Garibaldi, I mistakenly typed Milano Centrale. The image below is the information I found, but according to the website, I’m not sure if trains to Milano Porta Garibaldi are still running. Thank you.

Could you tell us what the original connection is you intended to take? Since you planned to go to Garibaldi it would appear you have tickets good for travel on regional trains only, and in that case you would need to get on the regional replacement busses, not the EC replacement busses. But without details one can only guess…

Krist I was originally supposed to take the train shown in the picture, but it’s no longer listed on the website; it seems to have been cancelled.

That is a local commuter train. It has indeed been cancelled. In its place there is a train to Gallarate, where you will change to a replacement bus to the airport where you can then continue by train.

Your ticket will, of course, be valid for the replacement. It is odd however that you ended up with this, as the best solution to get from Zermatt to Milano in the morning would have been with one of the EC trains.

(Note that buying tickets in advance for local commuter trains is not needed)
