Boarding in a different time

I’m buying a ticket from Tirano to Zurich. I’d like to know if it’s possible to disembark at a station, enjoy the surroundings, and board another train to the same final destination, but at a different time.

If you buy a normal, point to point, ticket you can indeed interrupt your journey and continue on a later train. You can also take earlier and later trains. Basically such a ticket is good for one trip on the route you bought it for, on the day it is valid. You are not limited to the trains you selected during booking.

With Supersaver ticket you are limited to the trains you selected.

However, for your trip probably a Saver Day Pass will be the best option. This is good for unlimited travel on all public transport in Switzerland, so offers you full flexibility.

As an addition to the previous answers, note that the seat reservation of course is only valid on one train. This also means that, if you disembark during the first leg of the journey (between Tirano and St. Moritz or Pontresina, depending on your route), the panoramic train surcharge is only valid on one train and you can not reboard the panoramic coaches. Each train also has a few regular coaches, but they are usually a bit more crowded.
