Wi-Fi for international guests

I will be using an eSIM provider, AirAlo, for my time in Europe (Switzerland included). I see that the SBB Surfnet only works with certain carriers (AirAlo not on the list).

What options exist for WiFi while traveling on SBB?
Do the trains offer WiFi, or will I need to rely on my mobile data provider?
How about on boats and buses within the SBB network?

Good day …

Only Eurocity trains (EC) feature on-board Wifi. Regular Swiss trains do not.

There is free Wifi in larger stations, you can use it with your SBB account (www.sbb.ch > Login).

SBB is neither operating buses nor boats. Postauto (postal bus) does offer free Wifi on their services.

However, you should enjoy the landscape while travelling and the fact that being offline for some time can be a great advantage.

I will keep an eye out for the EC train. In general, my eyes will be focused out the window, but there are times when I need to book my next trip or something like that.
Boats/buswa - my mistake. I can see bus routes on the SBB app/site, so I mistakenly thought that they were linked.

The SBB shows all services as it is the main timetable provider for any trabsit service in Switzerland. And, we have an integrated public transit: you can switch from train to buses to boats, to funiculars, no matter the mean of transport, all blend perfectly; SBB knows their schedules and can even sell tickets for all services; and the ticket is always for a route, not a particular service (except Supersaver tickets).

This is why your public transit is so successful.

Hotels provide Wifi, too.
