Brig to Domodossola

Hello everyone,
I am checking the train schedules for June 6, 2026, from Brig to Domodossola. I noticed that for most trains, the departure platform at Brig is clearly indicated. However, only the 08:44 train does not show any platform information.

Does this have any special meaning? Could it be a system error, or does it indicate that this train may not actually be in operation?

This train is currently supposed to run that day; I can’t find any information indicating a cancellation, but check the timetable again in the next weeks.

Departure platforms may change at short notice.

Danhiel Thank you for your reply. I had previously seen that there might be maintenance work on this railway section in June and was concerned that services could be suspended. After your explanation, I feel more reassured.

May I ask a further question: if this train is available for purchase on the official website, can I proceed with booking it with confidence? If the service is later suspended due to maintenance, will I receive a notification from SBB?

Do you travel only from Brig to Domodossola? In this case it is not necessary to buy the ticket in advance, you can also buy it on vending machines or at the ticket office at Brig station, furthermore on SBB Mobile app before boarding the train. This is a regular point-to-point ticket valid in every train during the day of validity. Swiss tickets are issued, even if Domodossola is in Italy.

If you are departing from and/or arriving at another station, please indicate the whole journey. I could give you more information.

In fact, on June 6, 2026, I will be traveling from Zermatt to Milano Centrale. I would like to depart earlier and take the EuroCity (EC) train from Visp or Brig. However, when I search on the SBB website using “Zermatt to Milano Centrale” as the route, I cannot find the EC61 train departing from Brig at 08:44. The EC61 only appears if I search for “Brig to Domodossola.”

I will be traveling with a Swiss Travel Pass, but I would like to ensure that I have a seat, so I am hoping to make a seat reservation.

Additionally, I checked the Trenitalia website and found that the EC61 train from Domodossola to Milano Centrale is available on that day and tickets can be purchased. Based on this, I am considering buying tickets in segments: no ticket needed for Zermatt to Brig, reserving and paying only the seat reservation fee for EC61 from Brig to Domodossola via the SBB website, and then purchasing a ticket for EC61 from Domodossola to Milano Centrale via Trenitalia.

Would this approach be feasible?

This will be the first independent trip to Switzerland for me and my child, and I have limited travel experience. I sincerely hope to receive your valuable advice.

It is not advisable to reserve a seat from Brig to Domodossola, you will probably be in another unit of the train and you will have to change in Domodossola.

I suggest to buy a ticket from Domodossola to Milano Centrale on Trenitalia. You have a special discount if your child is aged 14 or under, but your reserved seats from Domodossola may be already occupied until this station. Find other ones in the same carriage.

If your child is older, you can buy two adult tickets from Brig to Milano, also on Trenitalia, and indicate that you have a discount “GA Switzerland”, select “See other offers”. The seats will be reserved from Brig, but you will pay the tickets only for Italy.

I have indeed encountered a problem while booking on Trenitalia. Following your suggestion, I tried to purchase two adult tickets from Brig to Milano and selected “see other offers,” indicating that I hold a “(GA Switzerland)” However, the system requires me to enter a pass number, but I have a Swiss Travel Pass, which does not have any number. May I ask again how I can resolve this issue?

Are you sure that you don’t have any number on your Swiss Travel Pass? You can enter the first 8 digits if it is longer. No check is made if this number is valid or not. I also don’t think that the ticket inspector will check your Swiss ticket.
