Confused about taking bicycles on trains

HELLO

We are 4 Australians cyclists who plan to use SBB trains Sargan-Zurich on 15/6/26 and then Zurich-Lausanne on 16/6/26. When I try to book trains travel for those dates I can locate the services/times that offer bicycles and after selecting 4 persons and 4 bicycles and then try to proceed to the bookings/payment screen i get a message ‘For the following sections bicycle reservation is required Sargans - Zürich HB’ followed by a longer message ‘Bicycle transport not possible. Unfortunately, bicycle spaces are not available for the following sections with compulsory reservation: Sargans - Zürich HB. Please select an alternative connection. Please note that it is not possible to make reservations for all transport companies via this sales channel. You can find the relevant information in the SBB online timetable in the connection view.’
Do i need to buy/reserve 4 bicycle reservations at €15 each in my registered SBB account, then try to book the train journey, hoping that the magic will happen when i make my booking that the 2 are linked up?
I am hesitant to make 2 steps - first buying the 4x€15 and then finding when i reserve my travel that i still have the same problem.
Or is there something i am missing?

Are you about to reserve on the RJX train?
Better reserve on the IC3.

The bicycle pass is valid on any public transit service within Switzerland.

Kindly note, in Switzerland we use the Swiss Franc (CHF), not Euro (€).

Hello Roland, thank you for your time to respond to my query. It is appreciated.

The train we would like to take is the 14:57 ICE service from Sargans to Zurich on 15/6/26. This appears not to be a RJX train?

When I try to reserve for 4 persons and bicycles I get the message described above. Do I need to make a reservation for the bikes first then buy the tickets and bike day passes in a seperate transaction.

I see.

The ICE connection is operated by a train from Deutsche Bahn (German Railways) that continous to Germany. It only offers 4 bicycle spaces; it is likely that they are already taken.
